USING DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY TO PLAN AND EXPEDITE SPONTANEOUS TRAVEL

After four years of "Spontaneous Travel", I learned a few lessons

bulletTravel light...really light.  You really need only 3 changes of clothes, a swimsuit, and a light jacket.
bulletYou  should have two packs:  One for your clothes and stuff you use at the hostel and another to carry around with you for stuff you use all the time.
bulletCarry only basic medicine.  You can find a pharmacy almost anywhere in the world to get special stuff when you need it.
bulletI enjoyed having an MP3 player.  Sometimes you can put on the earphones and escape the sound of a crying child on a crowded bus.
bulletEven if you're a computer addict, internet cafes are everywhere (well..they're kind of hard to find in the EU).  Carry your favorite programs on CD.  Use a program like Password Safe to encrypt your passwords.
bulletI still stand by my recommendation to power your goodies with AA batteries.
bulletDon't forget your towel.
bulletDon't panic.
