USING DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY TO PLAN AND EXPEDITE SPONTANEOUS TRAVEL

Choosing the right motorcycle for distance traveling is really important.

I chose the Kawasaki KLR 650. I borrowed one from my friend Frank to ride through Europe in 2004 and was so pleased with its size and performance that I bought one for my American tour.

There are two really useful websites for long distance motorcycle riders:

	http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ This site has a great feature called communities. Around the world there are local people who will sometimes give a rider some help or information.
	http://www.advrider.com/ I enjoy reading about travelers who have gone before me on a route. Info about border crossings is very handy.
	http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=387223 Here is where I occasionally post motorcycle travel comments.
	http://www.cyclepedia.com/ I bought an online manual.

Finding a place to stay with secure parking for your motorcycle is important. I'm on a tight budget so cost is important. I'm trying to develop a database of places where I have stayed that are motorcycle friendly. If you have information about good places let me know.
