Some places are special.  Here's a list of great places
Try searching on Google.

bullet Rainbow Guesthouse is a friendly stop for backpackers on the outskirts of Gyeongju, Korea.  Mr. Park, who speaks good English, knows all about the local sights and likes to meet people from all over the world.  A good place to relax for 2 or 3 days.
bullet Albury Backpackers Hostel in Albury, Australia  They have a really great porch.  The owner runs it with a velvet glove.  Take the river trip.
bulletThe Ebb and Flow Backpacker in Waipu, New Zealand.  It's a friendly place with a great view.  Warning:  Alas, the badies have taken over from Mary and Frank.  According to Mary the new management is not very backpacker friendly.  I'd say give it a pass and look for something as good somewhere else...good luck!
bulletThe Thornbrook B&B near Kilkenny, Ireland is run by John and his wife.  John is a motorcyclist and late one night he allowed me to pitch my tent on his green manicured lawn with a fabulous view of Kilkenny.  The next day John jumped on his motorcycle and showed me the scenic route to Dublin.
bullet http://www.harenet.ne.jp/villa/villa/shira.htm I stayed two nights at a great hotel on Shiraishi Jima, a small island near Okayama, Japan.  It's a great bargain and a wonderful place...Peaceful and scenic.
