Frank's Photos

My German friend, Frank joined me for a month of motorcycle touring in Costa Rica.  Rental rates were so high that Frank decided to buy a bike and then sell it at the end of the tour.  We toured all over Costa Rica.

Frank had a layover at Newark airport

He ate American health food

A yummy burger

He arrived in San Jose early in the morning

I picked him up at the airport

Only motorcycles

Our first stop was to eat our first casado

Frank loved casados

(sort of a Costa Rican blueplate special)

Harley's/hogs..get it?

This is the courtyard at the Bekuo Hostel where we stayed.

We went motorcycle shopping

Of course, Frank had to customize his bike.

Back at the hostel, we prepare the bikes.

Frank found a German hammer.

Ready to hit the road.

So, I guess we'll need a map.

A road snack.

Frank had never heard of Vienna sausages.

As we climbed into the mountains the views improved.

Movin' down the road.

Frank stopped every 30 seconds to take pictures.  I guess he had never seen a Holstein

On the new bridge looking at the old bridge.

On our way to Volcan Arenal

Securing our bikes at the hotel in Fortuna.

Nice room.

Free parking near the hot spring.

Ah! Warm water.

It felt great.

Fifty meters upstream it cost $50.  Here it's free.

We met some locals.

Volcan Arenal

On the way to the German Bakery

A tree.  I told you that Frank took lots of pictures

The German Bakeri

The bakery owner, Tom, put us up in a spare house.

Carola worked at the bakery and has toured Africa and South America on her bike.

A view of the lake

Frank throws his first chain.

We take a shortcut.

It was challenging.

I'm very happy to find a paved road.

The wet and muddy fun continues.

Sunset in Northern Costa Rica

Bzzzzt!

The main road.

Frank's quest for the perfect chain.

On the beach.

I relax.

Hostel cutie.

Not a lot of bridges on the Nicoya Peninsula.

Frank was good at river crossings.

I chickened out at the first suspension bridge.

What do you think?

We stopped at a beach party.

First aid?

Vultures waiting for me to make a mistake.

Another river crossing.

Frank takes an ultra-light tour.

I waited for him here.  He says he waved.

I wish I had coughed up the money for a flight.

Mmmm!  Street food.

Some of the roads were challenging

For my birthday and Christmas, Frank let me rest for a few days.

FUD baloney.  I liked it because FUD is  an acronym for Fear/Uncertainty/Doubt

My birthday cake and the "No Fear" hat Frank gave me.

We had a guest.

We rode on the beach.

The Casado Kid.

The chain quest continues.

We stay by a surf beach.

Views on the Osa peninsula.

Well, at least it's a bridge.

Our grass shack.

Frank toured some remote beaches while I relaxed.

He found a croc.

Marvin stopped to help us and then invited us to stay at his house.

Marvin brews a cup of home grown coffee.

We were well fed.

The route from San Vito back to San Jose took us to 3000M and above the clouds.

The we headed to the Caribbean coast via Puerto Limon

A nice beach and a good hotel.

Frank takes the custom luggage rack off of his bike.

Then he worke over my bike.

Hostel Bekuo was full so we stayed in the Moto Suite (the garage).

Frank packs up for the return to Germany.  We had a great Tour.
